HI There Trekkers,
We had a wonderful Christmas Outspan at Chappies , the weather was fine, some of the time it
was very hot and then we had cooler times in between, so everyone was happy at some stage !
The old faithful s were well settled by the time I arrived. Coopers 'van, Diogenides 'van,
Browns, Bond-Smiths and friends Pretorious, were all set up, so I had some good guidance to get
in to my site and a nice tall man to help me plug in my horizontal tent pole (Thanks Alex). As the
afternoon progressed the missing occupants started to arrive and later Carol and Wayne and
Vanessa. As it was still warm, it was very pleasant sitting under the beautiful Plane trees and
chatting. Later the fires were on the go and we congregated under Dave's extended tent to enjoy
our braai and chat.

On Saturday we all seemed to have various agendas, breakfasts, shopping , exhibitions etc. so it
was afternoon by the time we settled in to getting the evening meal on the go. Potatoes were
peeled, par-boiled and later deep fried, the meats were merrily rotating on the spits and salads
were being prepared. It is amazing how it all comes together to give us a wonderful meal.
Between our decorated caravans /tents and creative table settings , the atmosphere was very
festive and we sat down to enjoy as the carving was going on. The great thing about Laager 8 is
that everyone gets involved so the evening was a combined effort, even the music and our
entertainment ! The Kassler and Silverside meat was tender and delicious and well done to the
ladies for the interesting salads and puddings, we couldn't have had a better meal anywhere else.
Christmas gifts were distributed and everyone seemed happy with them. Aaron was the only
child with us this year and he was delighted with his.
The music started up and after we had all voted for the best decorated 'van and table, the
entertainment began …. Angela and Vanessa (The Andrews sisters) mimed and sang through
Wayne's whole repertoire, it was hilarious ! How they remembered all the words, we all sat
amazed. Colleen was also giving the songs her rendition, what talent we have ! We decided they
will be the entertainment for out NAGM in September 2018 ! A great evening was had by all.

Sunday morning was busy with a lot of washing up going on, after breakfast we held our usual
Christmas service, thankfully Wayne was able to find some carols among his music which was a
big help for our singing ! After we gave thanks for the birth of Jesus we all got together for
Indaba. Afterwards we took the collection for Cape Town City Missions and then just enjoyed
sitting in the shade and chatting until it was time to bring out the left overs and share them out.
We all left about 4 ish after a super weekend.

Dave welcomed us all , congratulating the committee on the weather, also our
visitors, Muggie and JP Pretorious friends of Alex and Colleen.
